‘Palimpsest’ - March 2025

A series of images incorporating minimalism, brutalism, and using abstract expressionism in form of Interruption.

Material - Mixed Media pieces assisted by Artificial Intelligence.

Statement

Initially starting with raw, loose, scribbled lines that has become a part of my work (progressed from using layering over words and text). Progressively, moving on the theme of layering, where I would add and remove marks, allowing previous gestures and moments to remain visible beneath new ones. This technique creates a sense of history and depth in the images. Which is why I came to name ‘Palimpsest’.

“A palimpsest is originally a manuscript or document that has been written over, with traces of the original text still visible beneath. The term has expanded beyond its historical meaning to describe any surface, object, or concept that bears layers of history, memory, or revision—where past and present coexist.

In art and architecture, a palimpsest can refer to layered textures, erasures, or remnants of previous works that inform the final piece. It symbolizes time, transformation, and the persistence of memory.”

I wanted to develop on the concept of layering textures to find a juxtaposition of using big minimal spaces layered against materials to mimic the lines and scrubbing shapes of charcoal against paper or me creating an abstract shape with Oil paint on canvas.

This led to larger contemporary sculptural pieces which involved silks and cottons to amplify open space or a blank canvas, which then would be interrupted by a contrasting fabric that mimicked paint strokes or charcoal marks that take over the allocated space.

The sculptures almost in my opinion become alive as the dark strokes of fabric could be seen moving/flowing in the spaces due to lightweight material.

Morph. - April 2025

Mixed media moving image completed on iphone - Assisted by artificial intelligence.

Statement

‘Morph.’ is a moving image that abruptly illustrates space between life and death. A figure slowly transforms and fades away. It reflects the idea that nothing stays the same — that we are always in a state of becoming or disappearing.

Alongside the film, still images taken from the work are shown as individual pieces of abstract expressionism. These stills focus less on the figure and more on shape, color, and emotion - to invoke a personal connection to each of the images.

The moving image and stills invite the viewer to reflect on the beauty and uncertainty of change which is guaranteed in life.

The Quiet Burn of Dusk. - May 2025

Mixed Media Series completed on iPhone - Assisted by artificial Intelligence.

Statement

‘The Quiet Burn of Dusk.’ is a minimalist mixed media series that explores the balance between warmth and restraint, stillness and intensity. Inspired by the fading light of day, the work reflects the quiet energy of dusk as it shifts from light to shadow.

Using a limited palette of beige, grey, black, and orange, I focused on how these colours interact to create mood. Orange acts like a soft ember, held in tension by the strength of black, the calm of grey, and the subtle warmth of beige, which brings the composition together.

Each piece invites quiet reflection—not through stories or figures, but through surface, colour, and form. I created this work to offer a moment of stillness, for you to simply pause and feel.
